Jack Fryer
Director
Jack, where are you from? I grew up in Surrey and moved to London for University. Initially I was based in West London then moved East to London Fields when I joined Kontor fresh out of my Masters. I am now based down in Peckham.
Describe your role in three words. Real Estate Solutionist*
*post Covid with rapidly changing ways of work there are so many hard decisions to make - I am an expert at assisting on this journey drawing from day to day experience of how other forward thinking businesses are tackling these same issues.
An office needs...People and energy.
You want a place you enjoy coming into. Personally, I love an environment with a buzz; the space needs to be inspiring. If it looks and feels good, it will attract others. Post-Covid, we’ve seen many clients opting for more exciting spaces to draw their teams back in.
Favourite office space? I love a building with character, so something that has been renovated rather than newly built. A converted warehouse or a restored period building for example. Great ceiling heights and natural light are also a winning combo. If I was forced to choose one, I would say 17 Broadwick Street, in Soho. Designed by the late Richard Rogers. I was lucky enough to let the whole of this building off-market in 2022 just as the market was recovering post Covid and this part of Soho particularly was really heating up. The building and project were a special one and I will forever remind colleagues and anyone who wants to hear about the fact ‘I let that’ when nearby.
Best thing about your role? Every client is different - it’s fascinating to learn about different businesses and industries and to meet amazing founders and leadership teams. It’s a privilege to be involved in such a key project that is searching for and securing a new home for each company.
Over 10 years many of these clients and individuals have become friends and it’s always an enjoyable process ‘getting the team back together’ – also celebrating a successful project is always mandatory!
Top tip for any company considering a move? Work with a specialist like Kontor.
On a serious note, office moves are complex. By working with a professional, we can help deliver on your brief, handle all negotiations, and generally make what is a rather stressful process far easier.
And finally, talk us through your weekend plans. Nowadays I am usually out and about in Peckham walking the Whippet, sniffing out a new restaurant, or sourcing something from the local butcher to rustle up on the Green Egg!
Experience: I studied Real Estate at Kingston University after being interested by the built environment and the tangible nature of the sector. Thereafter, I secured my Real Estate Development Masters at Westminster University. Following my Masters I joined Kontor as employee 1 in 2015 enabling me to complete my APC and become a chartered surveyor in 2017. In 2018 I was elected as a Committee Member of the City Agents Society and remain there to this day. I have a track record of advising some of the world’s most exciting businesses on London and Global real estate strategy, having transacted in New York, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and Lisbon.
