Martin Gibbs
Key Accounts Director
So Martin, where are you from? I grew up in Maidstone before heading north to study at university in Nottingham. After that, I moved back down to London, and I now reside in the countryside, being in nature was too strong to resist.
Describe your role in three words. Keeping things moving.
When a client inquiry comes in, I help direct it to the appropriate team member and assist in guiding the process in the background. I’m more of a behind-the-scenes person rather than being in the spotlight.
An office needs… Character.
It should reflect the company’s values and culture. When you step into an office, you immediately get a sense of what kind of business it is and what the team is like. If you walk into a space that’s empty and cold with boxes strewn everywhere, it immediately puts you off. When effort goes into creating a well-designed space, it truly shows.
Favourite office space? No.6 Babmaes Street from The Crown Estate. The aesthetic is minimalist but inviting, with plenty of natural wood, soft lighting, and a neutral palette accented with just the right amount of greenery. They also have a great lounge area where you can relax, grab a coffee, and meet other people. It’s an excellent all-rounder.
The Old Sessions House is also impressive. Situated in an old courthouse, it boasts a lot of history and the design centres around its original features. Plus, they have a rooftop pool—what’s not to love?
Best thing about your role? There’s something incredibly satisfying about the team working together to secure a new space for a client. Property is a highly competitive field, but at Kontor, it’s always a team effort. We support each other and do things our way. Additionally, everyone here is at the top of their game, so we’re always learning and are genuinely passionate about what we do.
Top tip for any company considering a move? Communication is key. Have all the internal discussions to determine what you’re looking for, ensure the budget is finalised and approved to avoid any hiccups, and keep key stakeholders informed throughout the process.
In our experience, one of the most common reasons for setbacks is a missing approval or a communication breakdown.
And finally, talk us through your weekend plans? You’ll usually find me outdoors, whether it’s a long walk, a bike ride, or a swim. I also grow some of my own food, so gardening is often on my weekend agenda.
