So Sam, where are you from? Another Kontor Sam! I grew up on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. I lived in London for six years before opting for somewhere further out, and I've been in East Sussex for the past seven years.
Describe your role in 3 words Managing Director - Flexible Advisory
That’s basically a shortened version of my full title, but it does what it says on the tin. I'm responsible for flexible and managed office advisory globally, with a focus around US broker partnerships and our key clients international growth.
An office needs…A mixture of solutions to suit different types of businesses, with a primary focus on wellness and similar amenities within the building. In the flexible office market, we're seeing numerous providers focus on amenity-rich spaces, including wellness rooms, rooftops, on-site gyms, bars, and restaurants. This is what businesses are now looking for.
Favourite office space? It’s hard to choose.
We work with clients who require bespoke, curated spaces to suit their brands, so I'd say I prefer spaces with a more individual look and feel. Fortunately, there's no shortage of these in our jobs!
Best thing about your role? Negotiating on behalf of clients to secure the best deal and increasing revenue from international markets into the UK.
Top tip for any company considering a move? Start early, especially if you’re a larger business. We'll be able to show you off-market opportunities, and you can likely influence how they come to life.
Secondly, pick a service you trust and aim to work with just one broker to ensure you get their undivided attention.
And finally, talk us through your weekend plans. Countryside walks and countryside pubs. We’ve got two dogs who always join us for walks (they’re proper country dogs, so I’d never bring them into the office—they’d likely be overwhelmed).
I'm currently trying to grow my own fruit and veg, so tending to the garden takes up some time. When winter rolls around, I love to snowboard.
