Sam Haworth
Financial Director
So Sam, where are you from? I grew up by the beach in Brighton and Hove before moving to London about eight years ago, where I've since settled.
Describe your role in three words Finance, Operations, Strategy.
Quite a broad role, not limited to managing the finances of the company. Play a key role in the day-to-day operational and administrative aspects of the company, as well as focussing on the short, medium, and long-term strategy.
An office needs… People, plants, and humour. Working with individuals who genuinely want to be here is essential. When everyone is aligned, it brings motivation and creates a vibrant atmosphere.
Best thing about your role? Problem-solving and strategic thinking.
It's not merely about overseeing expenditures; it's about taking all components into account and considering how they translate to the broader picture for the business. Being part of a scale-up means there’s significant variety and scope in the work as well.
Top tip for any company considering a move? Be forward-thinking.
Traditionally, finance is often seen as a retrospective role, focused on past performance. While this is valuable for informing decision-making, it often involves outdated information. Consider adopting a forward-thinking approach, utilising various variables to make proactive rather than reactive decisions.
And finally, talk us through your weekend plans. Weekends are usually dedicated to family time. Last year was particularly hectic with many social engagements, so this year is all about focusing on family.
This typically involves family walks around Richmond, taking the dog (Sooty) out, and making the most of these early years with my son.
And, of course, a Sunday roast is mandatory. My preference is for pork belly or lamb, with roast potatoes, thick gravy, cauliflower cheese, plenty of vegetables, and always a Yorkshire pudding on top.
